Florida Union
Free School District
The Florida Union Free School District is our school district which encompasses and oversees, in an administrative capacity, both
the S. S. Seward Institute high school and Golden Hill Elementary School. At the high school, the College Prep course work has led to a tremendous increase in Advanced Regents Diplomas. The middle school offers an individualized curriculum and experiential learning opportunities.
Golden Hill
Elementary School
Golden Hill Elementary School is a public school that serves students in kindergarten through 5th Grade. Instruction at the school is highly personalized, yielding consistently positive academic growth and performance. Located on Round Hill Road just outside the Village of Florida, Golden Hill benefits from a strong parent and community presence that nurtures many enriching school day and after school events.
S. S. Seward Institute
The student body of S.S.Seward Institute consists of grades 6 through 12, drawn from the Village of Florida and surrounding portions of the towns of Chester, Goshen and Warwick.
The school gets its name from Samuel S. Seward, a prominent settler and member of the New York State Assembly in 1804. His son, William H. Seward, was Secretary of State under presidents Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson.
Orange-Ulster BOCES
Located in neighboring Goshen, Orange-Ulster BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) does not fall under the governance of the Village of Florida but it is a vital educational resource for our area. Providing career and technical education, adult education, as well as elementary through high school special education, BOCES was created by the New York State Legislature to provide school districts with a program of shared educational services.
